His education continued at Duke University School of Medicine. While at Duke, he performed groundbreaking research in plastic surgery and published extensively in internationally recognized journals. He has won the resident reserach award for his work on cleft palate surery, and has consistently been one of the top surgical residents at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Follmar has published over 25 research studies related to plastic surgery in peer-reviewed journals, in addition to multiple book chapters in plastic surgery text books.
